Gunnar Bentz, who swims collegiately for Georgia, was one of four U.S. Olympians robbed at gunpoint in Rio de Janeiro.

Bentz, along with U.S. Olympic swimmers Ryan Lochte, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen had their wallets and other personal belongings taken when a group of men posing as police officers pulled over the taxi they were riding in.

Georgia released a statement on Bentz's well being following the incident.

"Gunnar is safe, and he and his teammates are cooperating with the authorities in Rio," the university stated. "Gunnar appreciates all the well wishes he has received through calls, texts, and social media, and he wants everyone to know that he is fine."

The robbers reportedly only took cash and credit cards, and didn't swipe any Olympic medals and credentials.

Bentz took to Twitter to say he was OK following the crime.

Lochte gave details of what transpired in an interview with NBC.

"We got pulled over, in the taxi, and these guys came out with a badge, a police badge, no lights, no nothing just a police badge and they pulled us over," Lochte said. "They pulled out their guns, they told the other swimmers to get down on the ground — they got down on the ground. I refused, I was like we didn't do anything wrong, so — I'm not getting down on the ground.

"And then the guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead and he said, 'Get down,' and I put my hands up, I was like 'whatever.' He took our money, he took my wallet — he left my cell phone, he left my credentials."

Bentz made program history by becoming the first male athlete at Georgia to win a gold medal. He received one as a part of the 4x200-meter freestyle relay team by swimming the third leg of the preliminary round, which also included Lochte and Conger. Lochte swam with Conor Dwyer, Townley Haas and Michael Phelps in the finals.
