Georgia's Charles Mann is playing everywhere this season

AP

ATHENS -- Charles Mann has done it all.

With injuries affecting Georgia once again this season, Mann has been asked to play all five positions at times. In a win over High Point, Mann played all five positions. He started as Georgia's center in a small-ball lineup in the regular-season opener against Chattanooga.

He started Georgia's most recent game against Winthrop as the shooting guard with Kenny Gaines out with a knee injury.

Mann has been forced to move all over the place on Georgia's offense instead of simply sticking as the team's primary point guard. But through the position switches, Mann has taken everything in stride.

"With the injuries and whatnot, we've had to play a little different," Mann said. "But we've been real scrappy and we've been able to get the job done. Hopefully, we'll be back to normal shortly and we'll be good to go."

Mann hasn't been able to put up the kind of consistent numbers he's accustomed to since he has had to take on different roles.

He's averaging 10.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, both of which are less than what he posted in the previous two seasons.

Mann hasn't been concerned about his numbers or his ability to score. He has simply taken the responsibility to help his team.

"You're gonna go through struggles in the game of basketball," guard J.J. Frazier said. "We know how hard he works and we know that the game was going to be fair to him."

Against Georgia Tech on Saturday, Mann could finally be back in his familiar spot for most of the game. Gaines is expected to play, and center Derek Ogbeide, who sustained a shoulder injury at the start of the season, no longer has a restriction on the amount of minutes he's able to play. As a result, Mann should be able to play the point without having to help out down low or being forced to play in an off-ball role.

Head coach Mark Fox said the lack of continuity at one position has contributed to the senior's inability get in a consistent rhythm this season. At the same time, Fox has been pleased with Mann's willingness to be an unselfish basketball player.

"In fairness to him, he hasn't found any rhythm because I've moved him around so much," Fox said. "He's been so unselfish and willing to do that and has not complained one time. I think he's excited about having more of a complete roster right now."

With Gaines back and Ogbeeide working toward full strength, Georgia is as healthy as it has been since the preseason. As a result, Mann will have a couple more scoring options to distribute the ball to, which should open up some lanes for him to drive to the hoop and draw fouls.

Georgia has lost its past four games to Georgia Tech, with Mann being involved in three of those losses against his team's top rival. Back at the point, Mann is hoping to turn the tide of his program's recent history against the Yellow Jackets.

"They're playing extremely well," Mann said. "They got size, they got shooters, they got everything. Of course, I want to win every game. But this game, since I have lost the last three, I kind of want this a little more."
