Mark Richt’s final game with Georgia already has happened.

Richt, expected to be introduced as Miami’s head coach at 10 a.m. on Friday in Coral Gables, Florida, will go ahead and get started in his new job, a source confirmed Thursday.

Richt was fired after 15 seasons as Georgia’s head coach Sunday and held an exit news conference Monday. Athletics director Greg McGarity offered Richt the opportunity to coach the Bulldogs one final time in whichever bowl they are selected for.

Richt said he would’ve asked for the chance to do so if the offer wasn’t extended.

“Oh man, I was very, I was very thankful for the opportunity,” Richt said Monday. “Are you kidding me? Get to coach one more time with these guys and finish the season? Yeah, I was all for that. If it wasn’t offered to me, I would’ve asked for it. Very excited about that.”

A change in Richt’s timeline has since altered those plans. He’ll now focus solely on being the head coach at Miami, the program he played as a backup quarterback for from 1979-1982.

For Georgia’s bowl game, receivers coach Bryan McClendon will fill in on an interim basis.

“I’ve asked Bryan to assume all administrative duties of the head coach,” athletics director Greg McGarity said. “This will be the least disruptive option for our players and staff as they begin preparations for our bowl game.”

Brian Schottenheimer and Jeremy Pruitt will continue in their roles as the offensive and defensive coordinator, respectively, for the bowl game.

The Bulldogs will find out which bowl game they’ll play in on Sunday.

Richt's final game coaching the Bulldogs is now last Saturday's 13-7 victory over Georgia Tech.
