ATHENS -- Terry Godwin got the question at least five times, he estimated, following Georgia's 9-6 win over Missouri.

Was this his breakout game as a true freshman receiver?

"It was a great game, but I don't think it was a breakout game yet," Godwin said.

Godwin's reasoning was simple. While he caught six passes for a game-high 78 yards, Godwin did not record a touchdown. He has yet to find the end zone through the first seven games of the season. For Godwin's breakout game to occur, he said a touchdown has to come along with it.

But Godwin steadily has progressed as a reliable option in Georgia's offense. His six catches doubled up his previous game-high of three, which he posted in games against Louisiana-Monroe and Alabama.

"He's growing up. He's playing a lot of ball for us," head coach Mark Richt said. "He's made some mistakes along the way, but he stepped up big (against Missouri). He had some big returns and catches and he secured the ball. That was huge."

During the game, quarterback Greyson Lambert said Godwin was his second read on most plays based on how Missouri lined up defensively. Godwin also totaled three punt returns for 49 yards. His 18-yard return in the fourth quarter helped set up Georgia's scoring drive which resulted in the game-winning field goal.

"He had some big catches that he was able to break tackles and get first downs on, and also as a punt returner to flip field position for us," Lambert said. "The stuff I've seen in practice that y'all haven't seen yet, that stuff is coming too."
