Georgia fullback Christian Payne sustained an injury during Friday's scrimmage that is expected to sideline him for about four weeks.

Payne's mother, Anita Payne, posted on her Facebook page that her son sustained a leg injury.

"Prayer request for Christian Payne!! Got small crack in fibula this afternoon at practice," Anita Payne wrote. "No surgery or cast needed, just crutches for about 4 weeks of healing. Pray for patience and healing!"

The four-week time frame of the injury would put Payne's return for Week 3 against South Carolina.

Payne's high school coach at Prince Avenue Christian, Jeff Herron, said he heard the news of the injury but was unable to get in contact with Payne as of Saturday morning.

Payne entered the preseason projected to be Georgia's starting fullback. Listed as Payne's backup is senior Quayvon Hicks, who Payne lauded for his versatility earlier this preseason.

“He’s definitely going to play because he’s a great athlete," Payne said. "I think he’s one of the most versatile players on the team. I think you can split him out at wide receiver and he can make an impact for you.”

A walk-on, Payne began his Georgia career in 2014 as an inside linebacker before moving to fullback.
