UGA’s 2020 game-by-game football schedule is set. See who the Bulldogs play, and when
Mark your calendars.
The Southeastern Conference announced the 2020 football schedule on Monday night via a live TV show on the SEC Network. The slate features 10-game campaigns for each team, with the SEC Championship set for Dec. 19.
Georgia’s season starts on Sept. 26 with a visit to Arkansas and former offensive line coach Sam Pittman.
The season then ratchets up the next week when Auburn visits the Bulldogs in Athens. It’s the first time the schools have met before November since 1936.
Another SEC rival comes to Athens next week in Tennessee, with the Bulldogs looking to win their fourth straight in the series.
Week four brings arguably the biggest matchup in the SEC season, with Georgia visiting Alabama on Oct. 17. It’s the Bulldogs’ first visit to Tuscaloosa since 2007, when they beat the Crimson Tide 26-23 in overtime. The Crimson Tide have taken the last five in the series, with two of those contests deciding the SEC championship.
Georgia then travels to Kentucky before its open week on Oct. 31.
The annual date with Florida in Jacksonville had been originally scheduled for Halloween afternoon, but that game will now take place a week later on Nov. 7.
The season then concludes with a somewhat easier four-game stretch of a road trip to Missouri, then Mississippi State in Athens, South Carolina on the road and Vanderbilt at home.
The SEC planned a 10-game, conference-only schedule as a way to navigate the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The schedule’s new format eliminated Georgia’s four non-conference games — Virginia, East Tennessee State, Louisiana-Monroe and Georgia Tech.
The schedule release comes on the same day Georgia started fall camp in preparation for the season. Assuming COVID-19 doesn’t get in the way, the season will kick off five weeks from this Saturday.
