University of Georgia suspends all athletic activities due to coronavirus concerns
All University of Georgia athletics are suspended through the end of the month due to COVID-19 concerns across the state.
The university announced Friday morning that there will be “no team activities or practices with any of our sports” through at least March 30.
That includes the start of spring football practice, which was slated to begin March 17. The annual Pro Day for NFL scouts that had been scheduled for March 18 is also included.
As for other spring sports, teams that have already had their games canceled are now also not allowed to practice. Baseball and softball were in the midst of their seasons when spring sports were suspended March 12.
The release doesn’t specify if these spring practices and Pro Day are canceled or postponed for a later date.
Georgia is just the latest to alter spring football schedules due to the ongoing pandemic.
Auburn and South Carolina both made the decision to delay spring practices. The ACC has suspended all athletic activities, including spring football.
Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame and others have outright canceled their spring games, with more expected to follow suit.
