Lady Bulldog Que Morrison’s latest injury is season-ending

Que Morrison is out for the season with a torn labrum, a team source told The Telegraph on Saturday. She suffered what was originally believed to be a shoulder dislocation during Thursday night’s 64-47 loss to Texas A&M.

Morrison stood bent over on the Stegeman Coliseum floor in agonizing pain. Georgia’s junior guard had recently found her stride after suffering two injuries over the last season-and-a-half — a torn meniscus prior to the 2018-19 season and a Jones fracture in Morrison’s foot over the most-recent offseason.

Maria White, the team’s athletic trainer, and Georgia head coach Joni Taylor rushed to Morrison’s aide. Morrison walked gingerly off of the court and later returned to the bench. Georgia brought in a doctor to put Morrison’s shoulder back into place, but the severity of the injury ended up being greater than expected.

“It changes everything,” Taylor said. “Que is a very important piece of our team. She guards the best opposing player and began to come around offensively. She’s our spark plug and our energy.”

Morrison’s injury occurred after seeing 11 minutes of action against the Aggies. Georgia likely planned to give their energetic guard a full 40-minute workload, and her injury felt significant in the loss. If the Lady Bulldogs had the full complement of Morrison’s defensive prowess, they could’ve had a chance to contend with a ranked Texas A&M team.

Two days prior to Thursday’s loss, Morrison answered questions about finally being healthy. She finally felt rejuvenated after a double-digit scoring output against Alabama and 18 points at Mississippi State. Suddenly, that momentum has turned into being sidelined when the Lady Bulldogs (14-12, 5-8 SEC) push for an NCAA tournament berth while having an outside chance.

Georgia travels to LSU on Sunday (3 pm, SEC Network Plus) to begin a two-game road stretch of conference games. The Lady Bulldogs now take on a different look, one that doesn’t include one of their hottest, most-effective pieces.

“My heart goes out to her,” point guard Gabby Connally said, who has been Morrison’s roommate for multiple seasons. “It just hurts, because I’m really close with Que. She just got back to who she was as a freshman. It’s not good.”
