End of another era: Running back D’Andre Swift declares for NFL Draft

The end of another running back era at Georgia has come.

D’Andre Swift, the latest of star running backs to lead the group of offensive playmakers at Georgia, declared for the NFL draft on Friday in a tweet. He is the third Bulldog to end their college days after three seasons — joining offensive linemen Andrew Thomas and Isaiah Wilson.

Swift is projected as one of the top running backs to be chosen in the 2020 draft. He follows former Bulldog stars Nick Chubb and Sony Michel to be highly-regraded draft prospects at running back. Chubb and Michel, however, opted to stay at Georgia for four seasons.

Swift’s career at Georgia involved a number of highlights — hurdles, long runs and a number of touchdowns to back it up on the stat sheet. One of his most-memorable bursts was a 64-yard touchdown run in the 2017 SEC Championship win over Auburn. Swift finished his career with 1,216 rushing yards (his second-consecutive season of over 1,000 yards) and seven touchdowns.

His career ended on a sour note as Swift was almost a non-factor in the SEC Championship loss against LSU. Swift opted to play in an effort to power Georgia to the College Football Playoff, but a shoulder contusion served as too much of a hindrance with 31 all-purpose yards on five touches.
