Tickets still available to see Kirby Smart at The Macon Touchdown Club Jamboree

If you want to hear a big name in college football speak, get a home-cooked meal and watch local high school football players receive honors, then the Macon Touchdown Club Jamboree is back for another year in Middle Georgia.

UGA’s head coach Kirby Smart is coming back to speak to the Macon Touchdown Club’s annual Jamboree at 6 p.m. Monday at the Methodist Home for Children in the Rumford Center, 304 Pierce Ave. Tickets for non-members will be $40 per person and includes dinner.

This will be the second year in a row that Smart has been the speaker at the event. In the past, the event has had other big-name speakers like Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn.

“It is probably the center point of our Jamboree in order to attract people to come out. The bigger name speaker the bigger your audience,” Lloyd Perkins, a member of the club’s Board of Directors said. “It does so much to help promote high school football here in Middle Georgia. It is really important to have a top name guy like Kirby Smart.”

A membership to the club costs $250 per year but gets you access to 12 weekly meetings with guest speakers as well as a home-cooked buffet-style meal as well as entry into the Jamboree.

Speakers during the regular season range from players like former Georgia quarterback David Greene to coaches like former Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson as well as other top names like SEC Network’s Tony Barnhart.

At the regular-season meetings, they honor local athletes with awards for the back, lineman and special teams players of the week.

At the Jamboree, players will be recognized for their season-long accomplishments and scholarships will be awarded as well to a handful of recipients.

Perkins said that the Jamboree is a chance to honor the top players and coaches in the area

“The most important thing for the Macon Touchdown Club that we do is promoting high school football in Middle Georgia,” Perkins said. “We do that by honoring the athletes on a weekly basis for their performance on Friday nights and we do that with the culmination of our Jamboree.”

For those that are interested in becoming a member of The Macon Touchdown Club, there will be a place to sign-up for next season at next week’s Jamboree.

If you are not a member then you can purchase your tickets from Russell Deese at U Park Em U Sell Em, located at 3306 Vineville Avenue, between the hours of 9:30 a.m.and 6 p.m. or you can contact Deese at 478-550-0524.
