Mercer’s Kyle Lewis named Golden Spikes semifinalist

Mercer junior Kyle Lewis was named Wednesday as one of 25 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award, given to the top amateur baseball player in the United States.

Lewis was one of two Southern Conference players named to the list, joining Samford’s Heath Quinn. The SEC has seven semifinalists, while the ACC has six. The only other conference have multiple semifinalists is the Pac-12 with two.

The list of finalists will be released June 13, with the award presented June 30 on ESPN’s “SportsCenter.”
