Mercer's Lewis takes conference baseball honor

Mercer standout Kyle Lewis was named the Southern Conference baseball player of the month for March.

Lewis put up big numbers in March, and is among the nation's leaders in nearly every major statistical category.

He finished the month with a .446 batting average to go along with nine home runs, 32 RBI, 22 walks and an incredible 1.490 OPS.

The conference player of the week on March 7, Lewis played a part in 58 runs in the month to pace one of the nation's top offenses, while having 17 of his 33 hits go for extra bases.

He had a 15-game winning streak, and 10 games with multiple hits and eight with multiple RBI.

The junior had three games with at least four RBI, including the six-RBI night at Kennesaw State, during which he belted the game-winning grand slam.

The Snellville native is chasing the conference's Triple Crown this season.

He is first in RBI (43), second in average (.414) and homers (12).
