Wofford leads throughout, beats Mercer
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Justin Gordon and Fletcher Magee combined for 46 points to lead Wofford to a 79-70 win over Mercer on Thursday night.
Gordon was 11-of-12 from the floor for 25 points and Magee, who made four 3s, had 21. Spencer Collins added 13.
Wofford (13-13, 9-4 Southern Conference) never trailed and had a 41-27 halftime advantage.
Mercer's Demetre Rivers nailed two straight 3-pointers to start an 11-3 run to close to 57-56 with 10:21 remaining. Magee responded with a three-point play to start a 10-4 run and the Terriers pulled ahead 67-60 with 5:54 left.
Wofford, which has won five of its past six games, shot 56 percent from the floor while holding Mercer to 26-of-60 shooting. The Terriers continued to be hot from beyond the 3-point line, making 9-of-19 shots.
Rivers led Mercer (18-8, 8-5) with 22 points, and Ethan Stair added 15. Stephon Jelks had 12 rebounds.
