Mercer women win Southern Conference opener

The Mercer women's basketball team went on the road to win its Southern Conference opener Thursday night, beating UNC Greensboro 86-78 in overtime.
The two teams were tied at 70 at the end of regulation as the Bears rallied late to force the extra period. Mercer then dominated in overtime to improve to 11-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Kahlia Lawrence led the Bears with 36 points, while KeKe Calloway added 17. Syndi Means and Rachel Selph each had eight, and Alex Williams had six points and 12 rebounds with Amanda Thompson finishing with six points.
Mercer stays on the road in conference play Saturday at Western Carolina.
