Mercer's Stephon Jelks honored by Southern Conference

Fresh off of capturing his second Southern Conference Player of the Week honor this season, Mercer sophomore forward Stephon Jelks has been named the league's Player of the Month for the first time in his career.

The award marks the first time a member of the Bears has received the award since joining the Southern Conference for the 2014-15 season. Jelks averaged a double-double in six games in the month of December, recording 12.7 points per game and 10.2 rebounds per game.

Jelks finished the month with three double-doubles: at Auburn on Dec. 15, at Arkansas on Dec. 19 and at Kennesaw State on Dec. 30. The sophomore had the two best rebounding performances of any conference player during the month of December, recording 15 rebounds at Auburn and at Arkansas. Jelks then added a 12-rebound game in the win at Kennesaw State.
