Mercer set for home game before road trip

Mercer's men's basketball team hosts Alabama State on Thursday before heading out on the road for a game at Davidson and then taking part in the Challenge in Music City.

The Bears enter Thursday's game with a 2-0 record, while Alabama State is 1-1. The Hornets beat Virginia Tech 85-82 and lost 72-70 to UAB.

Senior Phillip Leonard leads the Bears in scoring, averaging 13.5 points per game, while senior Jestin Lewis (12.0) and sophomore Stephon Jelks (11.0) are also in double figures.

Mercer head coach Bob Hoffman enters the game tied with Robert Wilder for second on the Bears' all-time wins list with 147. Mercer will look to continue its home dominance, entering the game with a 61-9 record at Hawkins Arena since the start of the 2011-12 season.
