Mercer women's golf, softball add signees

Mercer women's golf coach Michele Drinkard announced the first signing of her tenure with the Bears, as Lauren Lightfritzs signed to join the program in the fall of 2016.

Lightfritz is ranked 56th nationally in the Golfweek/Sagarin junior rankings for the class of 2016 on the strength of 17 tournament victories during her junior career.

The Suwanee native helped Georgia capture its record fourth USGA women's state championship, while also winning the Georgia Junior Girls title with the third-lowest score in tournament history.

She has also starred on the Lambert golf team, leading the Longhorns to three straight GHSA Class AAAAAA titles.

Mercer co-head softball coaches James and Stephanie DeFeo announced the signing of seven players for the class of 2016, the largest class of James DeFeo's stint at Mercer.

Mercer signed Kate Buckland, Danielle Castleberry, Amanda Schwartz, Angelica Ponce, Stella Preston, Abby Walsh and Hannah Williamson.

The class includes two players from Georgia, Williamson from Class AAAAA power Greenbrier and Castelberry from Woodland.
