Website ranks Mercer baseball in top 100 nationally
Coming off of its third NCAA tournament appearance in the past six years, the Mercer baseball program landed on the D1Baseball.com Top 100 program list at No. 82.
After sweeping the Southern Conference regular season and tournament titles in their inaugural season in the conference, the Bears were the only program from the Southern Conference mentioned in the Top 100. Mercer joined four other programs from Georgia on the list, after being the only team to represent the state in last spring’s NCAA tournament.
“It is a great honor for our program to be recognized,” Mercer head coach Craig Gibson said. “We’ve had a lot of success over the past few years and are working hard this offseason to use that as a springboard to elevate our program to one of the top in the Southeast.”
The list was compiled by D1Baseball writers Aaron Fitt and Kendall Rogers, taking into consideration recent history, coaching staff quality, facilities, scholarship/financial aid situation, conference dynamics and recruiting and player development proficiency.
Mercer recorded its sixth straight 35-win season in 2015, becoming one of only nine programs nationally to do so. During that time, the Bears made three NCAA regional appearances, won three conference regular season crowns and claimed two conference tournament titles.
