Mercer’s Russ honored by conference

Mercer quarterback John Russ was named Southern Conference’s student-athlete of the week on Wednesday.

The junior threw for a program record 336 yards and accounted for five touchdowns in the first half of Saturday’s 57-14 win over visiting Stetson.

The Buford native carries a 3.581 grade point average as an accounting major.
