Mercer roundup: Volleyball and men’s soccer lose on road

Florida International swept Mercer in the Stetson Invitational volleyball tournament Saturday.

FIU won 25-18, 26-24 and 25-13.

Mercer libero Tori Penrod made the all-tournament team.

The Bears lost 3-2 to Stetson on Friday, forcing five sets after losing its first two matches.

Mercer (1-7) hosts Troy on Tuesday.

Mercer blanked in men’s soccer

UNLV scored its first goal of the match in the 42nd minute and then held on to beat Mercer 2-0 on Friday in the Holiday Inn Express Invitational men’s soccer tournament, hosted by Utah Valley.

UNLV led Mercer in shots, 18-10, including an 11-2 shots on goal margin.

Mercer fell to 2-3, and plays the host team on Sunday.
