Mercer’s Andrea Congreaves selected for inaugural A-Sun Hall of Fame class
Andrea Congreaves, a former Mercer basketball player who was an All-America selection in 1993, is among the six people named to the inaugural A-Sun Hall of Fame class.
Congreaves, who was a two-year NCAA Division I scoring leader, is the only women’s basketball player to earn conference player of the year honors three times. She led Mercer to two regular-season conference championships, and she still owns A-Sun records for career points (2,796) and field goals made (1,107).
After college, Congreaves played professionally for 13 years in the United States and Europe. She spent five years in Italy and Spain before being selected 26th overall in the inaugural WNBA draft and playing 84 games for the Charlotte Sting and the Orlando Miracle. She was the first British basketball player in the league.
Later, she played professionally in Spain and England and played on England’s bronze medal-winning 2006 Commonwealth Games team, and she also coached collegiately and professionally in England.
Joining Congreaves as honorees at the Oct. 13 ceremony in Tampa, Florida, will be Corey Kluber (Stetson baseball), Chris Sale (Florida Gulf Coast baseball), Hal Sutton (Centenary golf), Monique Tubbs (Jacksonville track and field) and Glenn Wilkes Sr. (Stetson basketball).
