Mercer

Mercer releases its 2020 football schedule. They start out with an SEC team on the road.

Mercer will start the 2020 football season on the road with its lone FBS game against Power 5 opponent Vanderbilt as new head coach Drew Cronic makes his debut.

The Bears unveiled the full slate of 2020 games in a news release Tuesday. The Bears will face a full slate of Southern Conference games and will feature two other out of conferences games in addition to Vanderbilt in Campbell and Charleston Southern.

“The 2020 schedule is a schedule that requires us to be our best every week and work to improve upon the previous week,” Cronic said in the release. “I’m an old Southern Conference guy, so I’m looking forward to getting back into this tough conference.”

Cronic will make his home debut on Sept. 12 against Western Carolina in their first SoCon game of the season. Cronic said that he is looking forward to getting in front of the home crowd for the first time as the head coach instead of coming in as an opposing coach.

“Having coached at Five Star Stadium before, I know how passionate the fans here can be and how much of a home-field advantage Mercer has,” Cronic said. “This is one of the best gameday experiences in the FCS, which is one of the top reasons I wanted to come lead this football team. I’m looking forward to having that great support behind us again this season and for seasons to come.”
