The Mercer women’s basketball team will take on Georgia Southern University in the Bears’ home opener at 7 p.m. Thursday at Hawkins Arena.

The Bears have already notched two wins on the road, beating the University of Central Florida 73-64 and Florida Atlantic University 66-55.

Those wins netted Mercer’s Sydni Means SoCon’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors. Means had 15 points and 12 assists in the team’s victory at UCF, two assists shy of her career best, according to a Southern Conference press release. The Stone Mountain native had 14 points and seven assists against FAU.

Holland had 31 points in the season opener, an 88-79 loss at UCF. He went 11-for-11 from the free-throw line. Holland, from Fayetteville, North Carolina, put in 16 points as the Bears rolled over Toccoa Falls 110-43.
