Mercer athletes earn Southern Conference weekly honors
For her performance in the Ole Miss Classic, Mercer junior Paige Alsten earned several honors.
Alsten collected 50 kills during the weekend and was named to the all-tournament team. She also was named the Southern Conference Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, and with a 3.79 GPA with a major is mechanical engineering, Alsten was the conference’s Student-Athlete of the Week.
Soccer standouts honored
Will Bagrou and Ally Fordham earned player of the week honors for men’s and woman’s soccer, respectively.
Bagrou had two goals during the weekend, one each against Seattle and 16th-ranked Washington. His goal against Washington was the match-winner, the 10th of his career, which leads active conference players. His goal secured the Bears’ first win of the season.
Fordham scored one goal against Georgia State and two against Alabama A&M. The freshman’s goal against Georgia State was her first collegiate goal, and her three goals during the weekend put her in the team lead.
