Georgia College wins Peach Belt basketball openers
Georgia College opened Peach Belt Conference basketball play Wednesday with a doubleheader sweep of USC Aiken.
With Baldwin County School District students in attendance, the Georgia College men improved to 8-2 overall with a 65-55 victory.
Earlier Wednesday, the Georgia College women defeated USC Aiken 56-54 to improve to 9-1 overall.
The Georgia College men had the lead most of the way against USC Aiken. The Bobcats held the Pacers to a 36.4 shooting percentage, the sixth time this year Georgia College held an opponent to less than 40 percent from the field.
Terrell Harris led Georgia College with 17 points.
The women, who tipped off at 10:30 a.m., were involved in a close game the whole way. Veronica Ryan scored 10 of her career-high 13 points in the final quarter, hitting five of the seven shots she took -- going 3-of-5 from 3-point range -- during the contest.
Georgia College hosts UNC Pembroke in a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
