Georgia Southern, Georgia State ready for inaugural bowl trips

Georgia Southern knew it had done enough to earn a bowl trip in its first season of eligibility when it beat Texas State on Oct. 29.

Georgia State didn't become eligible for its first bowl trip until Saturday, when it knocked off Georgia Southern.

The two Peach State teams found out their destinations Sunday.

The Eagles (8-3) will play Bowling Green in the GoDaddy Bowl on Dec. 23 in Mobile, Alabama.

"We're excited to be playing in the first bowl in Georgia Southern history," Georgia Southern head coach Willie Fritz said on the school's athletics website. "I've heard nothing but great things about the GoDaddy Bowl, and we're looking forward to getting over there and experiencing what a bowl game at the Division I level is all about."

The Panthers (6-6) will play San Jose State in the Cure Bowl on Dec. 19 in Orlando, Florida.

"We've come a long way in a very short period of time," headcoach Trent Miles told The Associated Press. "I'm so proud of them for what they've been able to accomplish."
