Georgia College’s Maddie Stephen, Ashley Graham honored by Peach Belt

Georgia College women’s soccer’s Maddie Stephen and Ashley Graham have won the first Peach Belt Conference/AstroTurf Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week honors for the year, respectively.

The sophomore Stephen recorded two assists in Georgia College’s opening weekend for soccer. She fired an assist to freshman Anya Mancinelli for the 1-0 win over the University of Mount Olive and earned her second assist on a service to Sol Baldassini in the Bobcats’ 4-1 win over Barton College. Stephen also helped anchor a defensive line that allowed just 16 shots on the weekend, and one goal in the 180 minutes of play.

Freshman goalkeeper Graham pitched a shutout in the season opener against Mount Olive, recording six saves, one of them being in the final minute to deny the Trojans and give Georgia College its season-opening win. Graham also had one save in the win against Barton. She surrendered just one goal in her first two collegiate matches.
