Georgia College to host several Peach Belt championships
Georgia College will be the showcase for an unprecedented four Peach Belt Conference championship competitions during the 2016-17 season.
Bobcat Athletics will serve as hosts for men’s and women’s cross country, volleyball and softball championships this season.
“We take great pride in being chosen to host these championships for the Peach Belt Conference this season,” athletics director Wendell Staton said. “This is our opportunity to showcase all of the great things our campus and our community have to offer. One of the things that has excited me the most about hosting these championships is to see how our community rallies together to put together a tournament experience for the student athletes that is second to none.”
The schedule starts with the cross country meet on Oct. 22 at the Council Farm Course on Council McCranie Road in Milledgeville. The Bobcats hosted the meet in 2007.
Next up is volleyball from Nov. 18-20 at the Centennial Center. Volleyball is Georgia College’s newest sport, in just its fourth season. Eight teams will battle for the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
For the third straight season, the softball champion will be decided at the Peeler Complex on Georgia College’s West Campus in an eight team-tourney from April 21-22.
