Alumni update: Callaway, Cephus off to good starts

Two college freshmen from Middle Georgia are making big-time impressions at big-time programs.

Former Warner Robins standout Marquez Callaway was among the top five first-year players projected to get legitimate playing time this season at Tennessee, according to a Knoxville News-Sentinel story on Tuesday: “Callaway's speed and length will help his cause. He has better than average hands and appears to be an advanced route runner for a freshman. The competition could change before the season begins, but Callaway has inserted himself in the discussion.”

And Stratford alum Quintez Cephus appears on track to see snaps in Wisconsin’s opener against LSU at Lambeau Field.

A story Friday in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel noted that Cephus and co-freshman wideout A.J. Taylor “continue to impress in camp. Both appear to be legitimate candidates to get playing time this season.”

Both have taken a fair number of snaps with the Badgers’ first-team offense.
