Top Warner Robins bowlers recognized

The Warner Robins based Middle Georgia USBC has presented individual awards for the 2015-16 season. The initial presentation was for high average. The recipients and their respective averages were: senior youth — Cara Stasel (199) and Eddie Langdon (190); major youth — NeCole Hilton (181) and Darius Moye (192); junior youth — Leah Spears (165) and Stephen Lackey III (186); prep youth — E’Myia Thomas (119) and Ross Pankoski (120); Bantam youth — Dakota Rowley (102) and Antwan McCoy (104); Gold Cup adult — Cathleen Copeland (205) and Jimmy Mauro (230); and Robins adult — Courtney St Cyr (201) and Jimmy Jean (227).

Bowlers of the year were then announced: youth — Stasel and Lackey and adult — Cathy Copeland and Jimmy Jean. Tournament bowlers of the year were Makayla Leal, Thomas, Shiann Williams and James Morgan for the youth and Michele Sierak and Jay Taylor for the adults.

Separate plaques were given in recognition of the following: Director of the Year — Stephen Putnam, Duchess and Duke of the Year — Lydia Bueno and Howard Kitchens; Member of the Year — Julie Odom and Secretary of the Year — Joseph Miller. Arlene Todd and Walt Alexander were inducted into the Middle Georgia USBC Hall of Fame.

Another important event was the awarding of youth scholarships to Brittany Molargik ($1,200) and Stasel ($800). Thirty-one plaques were also distributed for scores of 298, 299, 300 and 800.

Georgia Games

The 2016 Georgia Games have been completed. Nine local bowlers received medals — gold: Jake Alefosio, Reggie Kirkland, Herb Overstreet, Jeanette Overstreet and Tommy Scaggs; silver: Douglas Cox, Jarred McCarley, Jimmy McCarley and Rhonda Newell.

Georgia State USBC Youth Workshop

The 2016 Georgia State Youth Workshop was held July 22-24 in Athens. Two local youth excelled. In the Senior Division (ages 18-19), Cara Stasel achieved high average (199), high game (279) and high series (279). In the Bantam Division, Antwan McCoy rolled high series (470). Steve Putnam of Robins AFB was recognized as the coach of the year. Judy Britt was inducted into the Georgia Hall of Fame. A total of $8,000 in scholarships was awarded. Local youth receiving $500 scholarships were Austin Amaral, Elizabeth Beatty, Brittany Molargik, Monterio Moore, Tyler Sierak, Makayla Spears and Stasel.

In the final week of their summer season, the Summer Outsiders were led by Justin Lewis (654), E.T. Stanley (614), Steve Davis (601) and Lisa Lewis (555). Highs in the Summer Smoke Free league went to Roger Harris (607), Charles Carter (606), Steve Davis (600), Kathy Jones (558), Donna Maynard (556) and Trudy Harris (550).

Senior stars were John Trichintotis (706/257 game), David Hutcherson (680/269 game) and Lamar Pipkin (640).

Leading the Summer Peterson Point bowlers were Bernard Height (744/278 game), Steve Putnam (700), Chris Davis (688), Cathy Copeland (567), Glenda Manning (562/246 game) and Sonja Williams (560).

Q: If my summer average is higher than my winter average, do I have to report this for tournaments?

A: As long as you have bowled 21 games, the answer is yes.

Events update

▪  The 36th annual Georgia State WBA Seniors Tournament will be held on weekends from Oct. 22 to Nov. 13 in Newnan. Singles and doubles will be held. The entry fee is $24 per bowler per event, and the deadline to enter is Sept. 30.

▪ The 36th annual Georgia State USBC WBA Queens and Senior Queens tournaments will be held Feb. 25-26 in Newnan. The entry fee is $55 per bowler for individual competition, and the deadline to enter is Feb. 3.

▪ The 61st annual Georgia State USBC Women’s Handicap Championships will be held on weekends from March 4 through March 19 in Fayetteville and Newnan. Singles, doubles and team events will be held. The entry fee is $24 per bowler per event, and the deadline to enter is Jan. 15.
