Mercer offense comes up big in romp over Florida A&M

A four-run first inning got Mercer rolling to a 22-5 win Wednesday over Florida A&M in non-conference college baseball.

Blaise Lezynski’s RBI single started the rally, before an error allowed Kyle Lewis to cross the plate on the play as well. Danny Edgeworth drove in Lezynski with a single while Jose Hernandez’s bases-loaded walk accounted for the Bears’ fourth run of the frame.

Florida A&M got a three-run home run from Brian Davis to cut the deficit to one, 4-3, but Mercer’s offense kept rolling. Trey Truitt led off the second with a solo home run, before back-to-back homers from Edgeworth and Ryan Hagan keyed a six-run third that also included RBIs from Matt Meeder and Lezynski for an 11-3 advantage.

It was a season high in scoring for Mercer, and the five homers tied the season high.

Meeder went 3-for-5 with a career-high five RBI, thanks in part to his third homer of the season.

Mercer now has 81 home runs on the season, the program’s highest mark since hitting 90 during the 2010 campaign.

Truitt notched his 22nd multiple-hit performance and 12th game with two or more RBIs, after going 2-for-4 with three runs and his 14th homer of the year.

Lezynski matched a season-high with three hits while also driving in three runs. He recorded his eighth multiple-hit outing and fourth multiple-RBI game.

Charlie Charlie Madden scored a team-high four runs, while recording his 10th multiple-hit effort.

Mercer, 31-19 overall, continues the eight-game road trip with a three-game series at Butler starting Friday.
