Macon Sports Hall of Fame announces 2016 class

The Macon Sports Hall of Fame has announced its 2016 class, which will be inducted May 5.

The nine-member class is made up of football players Julius Adams, Don Robinson, Wayne Johnson and LeKevin Smith, basketball players Sharone Wright and Sybil Blalock, golfer Mike McCollum, volunteer coach Dick Frame and baseball and football player Jeff Battcher.

Adams played at Ballard Hudson before going on to Texas Southern. He played in the NFL for 17 seasons, all with the New England Patriots. Robinson was a standout at Lanier before becoming an All-Southern selection at Georgia Tech. Johnson was an all-state performer at Willingham and lettered three years as a tackle at Florida State. Smith was a standout at Stratford, played in college at Nebraska and then in the NFL with the Patriots and Denver Broncos.

Wright was an all-state performer at Southwest, a two-time All-ACC selection at Clemson and then played in the NBA for four seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors after being a first-round draft choice by Philadelphia. Blalock, currently a deputy athletics director at Mercer, scored more than 1,800 points in her career with the Bears. She has been a member of both the NCAA basketball and tennis selection Committees.

McCollum, who is a graduate of Southwest, has been a golf professional at numerous clubs in Georgia and was the Georgia Section Professional of the Year in 1991.

Frame, who was a track athlete at Georgia Tech, has been a volunteer coach at FPD for 37 years. He has coached more than 20 state hurdles champions and more than 20 state runners-up.

Battcher starred in baseball and football at Stratford, where he was an all-state selection in both sports. He signed with Chattanooga and after a season, transferred to Utah where, he played quarterback in football and was a pitcher in baseball.
