Anna Tatishvili, Rebecca Peterson reach Tennis Classic of Macon final

Anna Tatishvili is feeling pretty good on the tennis court right now. The top-seeded player in the Tennis Classic of Macon proved that once again Saturday as she defeated Julia Boserup 6-4, 6-0. Tatishvili has not lost a set in the tournament and will face Rebecca Peterson in the finals Sunday.

"I think my game is pretty solid right now," said Tatishvili, who won the tournament's title two years ago. "I still have one more match to go, but I feel like I am getting better as the tournament goes on. The courts at Mercer are a little bit slower than I am used to, but I feel very comfortable being here. Hopefully, I can keep it going on Sunday."

Boserup was the aggressor at the beginning of the match, getting an early break to lead 3-1, but Tatishvili took over, winning 11 of the next 12 games to advance to the finals. Boserup played a three-hour singles match followed by two doubles matches Friday.

"I thought Julia was really playing well at the beginning of the match, and she was playing so fast and hitting everything so hard that I was having some problems," Tatishvili said. "But I was able to make some adjustments, and after that, I just played really well."

Peterson has also been dominant in the tournament, losing only one set so far, and she withstood a challenge by Lesley Kerkhove before putting her away 6-2, 6-3. Kerkhove did battle, breaking Peterson to pull even at 3 in the second set, but Peterson played flawless tennis after that and won the next three games to put the match away.

"It was a really tough match, and I had to fight hard because she played really well," said Peterson, who is from Sweden and is currently ranked No. 141 in the world. "I feel like my game is good right now. I have never played Anna before, but I know she is really good, and I will have to play well to beat her."

The doubles competition was completed Saturday with the team of Jan Abaza and Viktorija Golubic defeating Paula Cristina Goncalves and Sanaz Marand 7-5(3), 7-5.

The weather forecast for Macon calls for heavy rain the entire day. The tournament must be finished Sunday because many players are slated to begin play in Waco, Texas, early this week. Tournament director Eric Hayes will make the decision Sunday morning whether to move the tournament to Athens to Georgia's campus, which has indoor courts.
