Miami Dolphins 2026 Training Camp Position Battle to Watch

NFL teams have wrapped up their respective organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamps, and after a near month-long break, they'll pick things back up near the end of July for training camp.

The first preseason game takes place on Thursday, Aug. 6 on NBC when the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals face off in the Hall of Fame Game. The rest of the preseason's first week will take place from Aug. 13-15, followed by Week 2 on Aug. 20-23, and Week 3 on Aug. 27-29.

But before the preseason gets underway, teams must first report to training camp. The Miami Dolphins haven't announced the exact day they report to camp, but below is their biggest position battle to watch this summer.

Position Battle: WR | Malik Washington vs. Jalen Reagor vs. Tutu Atwell vs. Jalen Tolbert

With Jaylen Waddle getting traded to the Denver Broncos, the biggest question the Dolphins have to answer before the regular season begins is who will be their No. 1 wide receiver?

Given the caliber of pass-catchers on Miami's roster, it's highly unlikely anyone matches Waddle's 2025 production (64 catches, 100 targets, 910 yards, six touchdowns) next season. But that doesn't mean the WR competition won't be fun to watch.

Malik Washington was the Dolphins' second-leading WR last year behind Waddle, totaling 46 receptions, 317 yards, and three touchdowns. However, he's more of a return specialist than he is a wideout, and Miami is probably best served with him playing a WR2 or WR3 role as well as being their top return guy.

Reagor hasn't seen much playing time over the last three seasons. In stints with the Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots, and Los Angeles Chargers, he's caught a combined 22 passes for 342 yards and one touchdown.

The former Philadelphia Eagles first-round pick has been a bust five years into his career, but with the Dolphins' desperate need for a new WR1, he could have a chance to resurrect his career.

It's likely Tutu Atwell and Jalen Tolbert are the Dolphins' two best options in the pass game.

Atwell had back-to-back seasons with at least 39 catches and 480 yards for the Rams in 2023 and 2024. Tolbert is just two years removed from a 49-catch, 610-yard, seven-touchdown season with the Dallas Cowboys.

They both are the most experienced (and arguably the most talented) WRs on the team's roster.
