Red Sox Pitcher Aroldis Chapman Addresses Trade Rumors

Aroldis Chapman is putting together another impressive season with the Boston Red Sox. The 38-year-old has appeared in 20 games, accumulating 19.2 innings, a 0.46 ERA and 0.915 WHIP. His opponents are slashing .134/.247/.194 with a .441 OPS.

However, his time with Boston may soon come to an end. The Red Sox are 27-39 and sit in fifth place in the American League East. They are 13.5 games out of the division lead and 5.5 games back from a wild-card spot.

With the postseason becoming unlikely, they are expected to be sellers at the trade deadline. ESPN's Jeff Passan tabbed Chapman as the Red Sox's best player potentially available.

The lefty has spent the past two seasons in Boston and has produced a 1 ERA over 81 innings with the team. Speaking to ESPN's Enrique Rojas, Chapman addressed the trade rumors surrounding his name.

"I have no control," he said. "At the end of the day, I have no control over that, and I'm just focusing on being able to play, even though I'm not playing much right now. But I'm trying to focus on that, on trying to get the job done when it's my turn."

Since making his debut in 2010, Chapman has gained a reputation as one of MLB's most intimidating pitchers. Last season, his sinker averaged 99.4 miles per hour, tied for the fastest in the majors.

The flame thrower utilizes that advantage, which helped him get the fifth-most saves (32) in MLB last year. However, the two-time World Series champion may be closing out games for a new team by the Aug. 3 trade deadline.
