Former NFL Wide Receiver Henry Ruggs Denied Parole
Former NFL wide receiver Henry Ruggs has received a decision regarding his parole case.
Ruggs, the 12th pick from the 2020 NFL Draft, was involved in a car crash in November 2021 that killed 23-year-old woman Tina Tintor and her dog, Max. After pleading guilty to felony DUI causing death and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter, the former Alabama star was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison.
A year ago, Ruggs was temporarily released to speak at a "Hope for Prisoners" event.
"One, I wish I could turn back the hands of time," Ruggs said last June. "I would love for them to meet the real Henry Ruggs and not the one that was escaping from something. I sincerely apologize for not only being a part of that situation, but the fact my face is always in the news, it's always in the newspaper. So they have to constantly be reminded of the situation, be reminded of me."
Ruggs was hoping he'd be released from prison this August, nearly five years after he was involved in a drunken crash. However, he was denied parole this Thursday.
What's next for Henry Ruggs?
Ruggs will meet with the parole board again at some point in the next 12 months. His mandatory parole release date is set for Aug. 24, 2027.
As of this moment, Ruggs' legal team has not yet said anything about him being denied parole.
It's worth noting that Ruggs has the right to appeal the Board of Parole Commissioners' decision.
