Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Loses Offensive Lineman on Thursday
Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are looking to have a bounce-back year after a rough 2025 NFL season. Kansas City (6-11) missed the playoffs for the first time with Mahomes as the starting quarterback. The two-time MVP ended his season early after tearing his ACL in a 16-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15.
Dr. Dan Cooper, the head team physician for the Dallas Cowboys, performed the orthopedic surgery on Mahomes, and the three-time All-Pro is expected to be available for Week 1 of the 2026 NFL regular season. Prior to last season, the Texas native led the Chiefs to at least the AFC Championship Game, winning five of the seven conference titles.
The 6-foot-2 quarterback has won three Super Bowls for the franchise and brought home three Super Bowl MVP trophies. Both Mahomes and Kansas City expect to regroup and make changes after a disastrous 2025 season. On Thursday, the Chiefs took action by trading offensive lineman Wanya Morris to the Atlanta Falcons.
Morris was originally drafted by Kansas City with the No. 92 overall pick in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The Oklahoma Sooners product saw the most action of his career during the 2024 season, appearing in all 17 games and making 11 starts. The 6-foot-6 offensive tackle notably found the end zone that year, catching a 1-yard touchdown pass in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Georgia native appeared in 12 games for the Chiefs during the 2025 season and made his first and only start in Week 14 against the Houston Texans. The Grayson High School graduate suffered a season-ending injury to his left knee on the very first play from scrimmage. Morris ends his career in Kansas City having played in 43 games and made 16 starts.
