NBA Fans Criticize Spurs Coach Mitch Johnson Over Postgame Comments
The San Antonio Spurs suffered a devastating loss in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, blowing a historic 29-point lead to the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
The Spurs had firm control of the game at halftime, but scored just 30 total points in the second half as the Knicks mounted the largest comeback in NBA Finals history.
The Knicks now hold a 3-1 lead in the championship series, putting the Spurs’ backs against the wall as they head to San Antonio for Game 5.
Head coach Mitch Johnson and the Spurs have struggled to close out games in the NBA Finals. The Knicks pulled away late to notch a 10-point victory in Game 1, and the Spurs committed several costly fourth-quarter mistakes to lose by one point in Game 2.
After Game 4, Johnson said he feels his team has “decided the outcome” of all four games.
“By no means am I not acknowledging the Knicks and what they’ve done and give them credit for playing good basketball. But we feel like we’ve decided the outcome of all four games,” Johnson said postgame.
NBA fans directed criticism toward Johnson over this postgame statement.
“What does this mean coach? That you and your team decided to lose 3 games which you led by double digits late? This is warped mentality bro,” one fan wrote.
“Personally I would have chosen better outcomes than losing 3 games and winning 1,” another said.
“Funny how every team ‘beats themselves’ against the Knicks. Maybe the Knicks have something to do with it,” another added.
“He’s right but it’s also his bad coaching that has put them in this position lmao,” another wrote.
Game 5 of the NBA Finals will tipoff at 8:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
