Knicks Radio Host Apologizes to Taylor Swift for NBA Finals Game 4 Comment
ESPN analyst and Knicks radio host Monica McNutt had plenty of critical Taylor Swift fans coming for her after her remark about the singer during the NBA Finals.
Swift was among the many celebrity fans who attended Wednesday night’s Game 4 between the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. The singer, who just unveiled her theme song and video to “Toy Story 5,” sat in a courtside seat next to actor Mariska Hargitay and the Haim Sisters.
Based on her attire, Swift was there to cheer for the Knicks, rocking a custom blue shirt with “Stevie Knicks” written in orange letters across the front, matching the Knicks’ team colors. However, McNutt didn’t believe Swift was a true fan, calling her out on a hot mic while working alongside co-host Tyler Murray before the game.
Hours later, the Knicks radio host clarified why she made her remark about the singer, saying she “misspoke” and hadn’t realized Swift’s fandom. McNutt mentioned she’s been working with the Knicks organization for the past five years and hadn’t seen her at Knicks games in “Celebrity Row,” like other celebs she’d seen there like Timothee Chalamet, Fat Joe, or Ben Stiller.

“We just saw her in Cleveland with her fiance. Obviously, Travis supports the Cavs. She didn’t have on any Knicks paraphernalia,” McNutt mentioned.
“I did not know. I apologize if I’m wrong, and apparently I’m wrong,” she also said about Swift’s fandom. “Come on now, every Knicks fan that’s a celebrity has been in the building this year!”
“There are pictures of an Amare Stoudamire jersey, that’s the origin story. So shout out to her, that means she’s been in the trenches. I just have not seen her [at Knicks games this season],” McNutt told TMZ.
McNutt also joked that nobody cared about her mistake at the Knicks game, as people were much more excited over the team’s thrilling 29-point comeback win.
“Did you see the way this thing ended? Nobody cared about this thing at all!” she said. “I knew it was a big deal on the internet, but I was too busy enjoying the game.”
McNutt apparently knew the best policy was to apologize, because the Swifties can be ruthless and relentless when it comes to disproving anyone who criticizes or questions Taylor Swift.
As she mentioned, McNutt has been working with the Knicks for the past five years, providing their radio coverage, so she’s seen quite a bit of celeb fans over that time. The former Georgetown Hoyas basketball player knows hoops well and has also appeared as an analyst in ESPN segments discussing the topic over the years.
In addition to Swift popping up at last night’s Knicks game, others in the building included Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Larry David, and John McEnroe. While most of them sat in disbelief with little to cheer about in the first half, the Knicks battled back, down 29 points, to achieve a one-point win.
With that, they are now one win away from bringing New York City a third NBA championship, with Game 5 arriving Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET in San Antonio.
