Mike Greenberg Getting Praised For Speaking Out Against 'Disgraceful' Knicks Fans
On Monday it was assaults on Spurs fans. On Wednesday it was throwing objects at Spurs players. On Thursday, ESPN's Mike Greenberg made it clear that he's had enough of Knicks fans misbehaving.
During this morning's edition of Get Up, the longtime ESPN show host declared that anyone who acts in the way that the people committing violent acts against Spurs fans and players are a disgrace to both the city of New York and themselves.
"If you're throwing eggs at Victor Wembanyama and beating up people to people wearing Spurs jerseys, just know that you are a disgrace. Not just a disgrace to the city, you're a disgrace to yourself," Greenberg said.
Praise the Message
NBA fans applauded Greenberg's message, declaring that Knicks fans are getting way out of line with some of the behavior they've committed this week.
"I second what Mike said, throwing things at players and assaulting people for just being a fan of the opposing team is a (expletives) behavior. They are a disgrace and the parents that raised them to think this is acceptable," one user remarked.
"Fact. Why can't you just celebrate your team winning w/ all your peers who are fans? NY is embarrassing themselves," wrote another.
"As cool of a story as the a Knicks potentially winning a championship is. The fans don't make this team easy to root for. Embarrassing," a third wrote.
The Knicks haven't won an NBA title since before most of the current fans were even born. They've endured as much pain and humiliation for decades as any basketball fanbase there is.
But the catharsis of coming this close to being NBA champions can't override being a decent person in public. Whether it's anger, drunkenness or clout-chasing, the behavior simply has to stop immediately.
Game 5 will be in San Antonio this Saturday. If there's a Game 6, it will be in New York City on Tuesday.
