Victor Wembanyama Refuses To Sign Partnership Deal With Coca-Cola
San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama isn't afraid to stick to his beliefs, that's for sure.
Prior to Game 1 of the NBA Finals, Wembanyama declared that he's not fazed by all the pressure that comes with playing in the championship series. He told reporters, "At the end of the day only 20,000 people fit in the arena. So, it doesn't really make a difference."
Leading up to Game 2, Wembanyama made headlines for an entirely different reason.
Wembanyama's agent, Jeremy Medjana, revealed that soda companies have tried to strike partnerships with the French phenom. He ultimately turned down millions of dollars because he's not aligned with those companies' beliefs.
"We're not gonna mix his image with sodas like Coca-Cola," Medjana told Jared Weiss of The Athletic. "They all want him, but Victor will never sell soda. Because he doesn't want to kill the kids."
NBA fans had a lot to say about Wembanyama's decision.
Some fans are applauding Wembanyama for refusing to partner with Coca-Cola and other brands. On the flip side, there are NBA fans who believe he's turning down life-changing money.
"The wise giant understands that health begins with honoring the body that carries the spirit," a fan commented.
"Seems like he's fighting a losing battle," a second fan said. "Just take the money bro."
"This is something you just keep private," another fan wrote. "Awesome that this is the case, but when you make it public it comes off in part as the agent trying to improve Wemby's public image."
Wembanyama will be back on the court Friday night for Game 2 of the NBA Finals. The series will then shift over to New York for Game 3 on June 8.
