Dyer, Golden tied for Atlanta Open lead at Pinetree
Pride Dyer and Blake Golden shared the lead Monday after the first round of the 92nd Yamaha Atlanta Open at Pinetree Country Club.
Both players shot 3-under par 69s for a one-shot lead over five others who entered the second round tied for third.
Dyer, an rising senior golfer at Reinhardt University, made six birdies on the day, four of which came on the back nine. Golden, a PGA of America associate at Iron Horse Golf Club in Milton, finished the day with five birdies, including his last one on the par-5 18th hole to push him into a tie with Dyer.
Pride is familiar with Pinetree and has practiced at the course several times over the past years. He ensured that his mentality entering Tuesday remained unchanged despite his lead.
"When you start getting ahead of yourself, start thinking of holes ahead, that's where errors start to happen, and it's a place where mistakes are going to happen," Dyer said in a release. "You've just got to roll with the punches."
Golden also approached Tuesday with his same style of play.
"Nothing really changes for me," Golden said in the release. "I'm going to play pretty much the same game I played today, just take it shot by shot, put the ball in play off the tee, and hope to have some looks like I did today."
Local players who play out of Pinetree included amateur Cooper Tendick (73) and amateur Eli Howren (74), while Tyler Johnson and amateur Brandon Price each shot 75.
