Packers Player is Poised for a Breakout Season
The NFL is in the offseason, but before you know it, September will be here.
For the Green Bay Packers, it’s shaping up to be an exciting season, as the team regroups under quarterback Jordan Love and makes a run for the playoffs.
In a piece for NFL.com out on Tuesday, May 26, Tom Blair names the most underrated players in the NFC going into the new season. “In a 32-team league with 53-man rosters, it’s impossible to properly praise all quality contributors,” he states. “But as we head into summer — the NFL’s slow season — it’s a perfect time to check some of those boxes.”
For the Packers, he loves linebacker Edgerrin Cooper.

“Like the Panthers’ Jalen Coker above, Cooper is an alum of Kevin Patra’s Unsung Heroes of 2024, and it looked like he was going to become a full-fledged star in Green Bay — until the Packers added one of the most famous defensive players on the planet,” he states in the piece.
He adds: “Of course, Micah Parsons cannot actually play all 11 positions himself, as the Cowboys well know. And while Cooper’s sack total slipped from 3.5 in his rookie season to 0.5 with Parsons on board, Cooper did manage to put up a team-high 35 run stops, per NGS.”

The Packers would be wise to treat Cooper right, because it’s true that he’s a standout on their lineup, even if he doesn’t get the attention of someone like Parsons. He’s a solid, steady and reliable linebacker on Green Bay’s roster, and that’s going to mean something going forward. Don’t look now, but he could be the team’s breakout star in 2026.
