Former KSU golfer wins Georgia PGA Match Play

Matt Nagy, an associate PGA of America professional at The Fall Line, a private golf course between Columbus and Macon, won the Georgia PGA Match Play Championship on Wednesday at Valdosta Country Club.

Nagy, a former Kennesaw State standout, defeated Matthew Cleary of The Farm Golf Club with a 6-and-4 victory in the championship match, securing the title with a birdie on the 14th hole.

The three-day tournament featured six rounds of match play competition among top players from the Georgia PGA Section.

To reach the final, Nagy defeated Todd Ormsby of Summer Grove Golf Club 4-and-3 in the semifinals. Cleary advanced after defeating Jeff Cammon of Sea Island Golf Club 2-and-1.

Nagy competed for Kennesaw State from 2007-11, recording multiple tournament victories and five top-five finishes, while earning all-ASUN Conference honors. Nagy also competed in the 2009 U.S. Open at Bethpage Black in New York, earning a spot in the tournament after advancing through local and sectional qualifying.

Nagy said he is looking forward to the Yamaha Atlanta Open on June 1-2 at Pinetree Country Club, a course he became familiar with during his time at Kennesaw State.

"I haven't been out there in seven years, so I am excited to go back there and play a course I know really well," Nagy said in a release.
