Rory McIlroy Will Skip PGA Tour's Event At President Trump's Course

The PGA Tour is heading to Trump National Doral's Blue Monster course later this month, but six-time major winner Rory McIlroy won't be there.

McIlroy hasn't been on the course since he secured a second consecutive Masters title on April 12. He missed out on a loaded field at the RBC Heritage, which ended with Matt Fitzpatrick defeating Scottie Scheffler in a playoff.

Although there's a $20 million purse for the Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral, it's not lucrative enough to earn a commitment from McIlroy. It was reported Friday that he's skipping the PGA Tour's first event at Trump National Doral in 10 years.

As of this Saturday morning, McIlroy hasn't commented on his status for the Cadillac Championship.

Fans defending Rory's decision.

"He is preparing in best way he believes for the next major. Quail is a much more suitable course," one fan wrote.

"I personally wouldn't step on a Trump property but that's just me," a second fan said.

"If Rory wants to play the 4 majors and half a dozen other events , he has earned that right," a third fan declared.

"A statement on the PGA Tour scheduling and cramming Signature events in the midst of the major schedule," another fan said. "Rory is focusing on the majors."

We'll definitely see McIlroy back in the spotlight on May 14 for the start of the PGA Championship.

If we had to guess, McIlroy will return to the golf course by the time the Truist Championship begins on May 7.
