Mike Greenberg Issues Public Apology To NFL Draft Prospect Denzel Boston
You may have missed it during Friday's coverage of the NFL Draft, but Mike Greenberg issued a public apology to Washington wide receiver Denzel Boston.
Boston was selected by the Cleveland Browns with the 39th overall pick. He had 132 receptions for 1,781 yards and 20 touchdowns during his run at Washington. The hope is that he and fellow rookie KC Concepcion will bring a ton of firepower to Todd Monken's offense.
"We're going to bring a good mix of explosiveness and having explosive plays after explosive plays," Boston said. "Both of us have generated tons of touchdowns throughout our college careers. So, I think those are the two things for sure you can look forward to."
As Boston was shown on ESPN celebrating with his family, Greenberg made this remark: "You remember his dad, David Boston, first-round pick out of Ohio State in 1999."
It didn't take long for NFL fans to realize that David and Denzel Boston aren't related despite having the same last name.
"Greeny just assuming because they're both receivers with the last name Boston that they must be father and son," one fan said.
"How Greenberg has a job is beyond me," another fan wrote on social media.
Greenberg takes full accountability.
During ESPN's coverage of the third round, Greenberg apologized to the Boston family for making this careless mistake.
"The Cleveland Browns traded out of the spot (pick No. 74) just a moment ago. I was waiting for them to come around again so that I could make an apology to Denzel Boston, who, earlier tonight, I misidentified as being the son of former NFL wide receiver David Boston. It was a mistake in my research. It was a terrible one, and I apologize to them both. They are not related to each other," Greenberg said.
"I apologize to both David and Denzel Boston, and congratulations to Denzel for being drafted in the second round tonight by the Cleveland Browns. It is my mistake, and I apologize for it."
Hopefully, Greenberg has a bounce-back performance this Saturday during ESPN's coverage of the NFL Draft.
