LIV Golf Announcers Clap Back At Reports Of League's 'Demise'
Despite rumors that LIV Golf is losing money and primed to shut its doors soon, the golf organization is beginning its next event - LIV Golf Mexico City - like normal. At the start of the event, one of the league's announcers decided to have some fun.
During the broadcast, golf commentator Arlo White declared that rumors of the league's demise were "greatly exaggerated." He then mocked those that have been trying to will the league's downfall into existence and advised them all to "take a day off."
It must be exhausting trying to will the LIV Golf league out of existence. Take a day off everybody. Enjoy the golf."
"Keep the Receipts"
Golf fans were largely dismissive of White's boasts, declaring that they'll be keeping records of his words and ready to celebrate if and when the league does fold.
"This is the receipt to keep. I know there's a rainforests worth. No better evidence of the Saudi playbook than that they were still screaming elite and one upping PGAT fans down their final stretch," one user on X remarked.
"This is exactly why these people need to be shunned from the golf community forever when LIV eventually kicks the bucket. These men have no shame in protecting a league that has greatly damaged the game of golf," another wrote.
"I'm tired of not being able to see all the best players playing on the PGA Tour," a third lamented.
LIV Golf has been a controversial organization from the get go mostly due to its close ties to the highly controversial Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF). The organization has been accused of cozying up to the Saudi government, and by extension aligning itself with a regime that has a rather spotty human rights record.
These concerns have largely been dismissed by the organization's executives and many of the golfers who partake in it.
If LIV Golf does collapse, as some now expect or even hope, it will be interesting to see if any of the narratives around it change afterwards.
