Mercer football faces Ole Miss in Oxford Saturday. How to watch on TV, stream radio
Week 1 of the college football season finally arrives over the weekend, and Mercer football will play in one of their biggest matchups of the year Saturday when they face off against Ole Miss in Oxford at 2 p.m.
The Bears actually enter “Week 1” with a 1-0 record after they played in the FCS Kickoff game last week, where they took down North Alabama 17-7.
This will be Mercer’s third consecutive year facing off against an SEC opponent after they lost to Auburn in 2022 and Alabama in 2021, and the chances for a Bears win seem similarly slim here. Ole Miss is the #22 team in the AP Poll to start the year and have a 99% chance to win, according to ESPN.
Mercer showed they can hang with the competition in years past, though. They scored multiple exciting touchdowns against both Alabama and Auburn, and even came close to beating a ranked Tigers team in a 24-10 matchup back in 2017. The Bears forced five turnovers that year.
Mercer enters the season with relatively high expectations, as they came up one crucial play short of a playoff berth last season in a double overtime loss to Samford in the season finale. While the Rebels are a tough opponent, the game could provide some unexpected fireworks.
