Scoreboard: Warner Robins rolls past Jones County 54-30, Tattnall takes down FPD

Though the Jones County fandom’s cowbells rang into the night, the Warner Robins Demons overcame the crowd and surged to a 54-30 win Friday night.

The win put the Demons above .500 and was their fourth straight victory amid a bounceback campaign.

While the game was relatively close early, Warner Robins fired on all cylinders in the second half thanks to quarterback Chase Reese and star backs Chaz Sturn and Isiah Canion.

“Just being able to put our guys in space and use them really helped us,” Warner Robins head coach Marquis Westbrook said. “Having Chaz Sturn… along with Chase Reese’s legs, man, it’s a pretty lethal dose on offense.”

Reese finished with five total touchdowns, nearly 300 passing yards and a lone interception in the blowout win.

“He threw the ball well tonight, Isaiah Canion caught some big balls,” Westbrooks said. “It was a really good offensive game for us.”

Warner Robins’ defense did heavy lifting as well, winning the turnover game with five takeaways. Emanuel Brown Jr. notched two interceptions, including a stellar diving catch in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.

“That last interception, that one-handed one, was really big,” Westbrook said. “We just opened it up after that interception, so that was really big for him, and big for us.”

The game had high stakes, as the Demons and Greyhounds were still in contention for the 5A Region 2 title. Both teams came into the contest with 3-1 records in region play.

Reese drove the Robins offense throughout the first half, completing a 63-yard touchdown pass on just the third play from scrimmage and also rushing for a 66-yard score later in the half.

The Greyhounds sputtered at first on offense, but Javious Bond took the lead and sparked the scoring. Bond blocked a punt and returned it for Jones County’s first score, then rushed for 65 yards over two drives to pace the offense.

After a Warner Robins touchdown with just 1:45 left in the half, Jones County took advantage of a short kick and scored a field goal going into the break to cut the Demons’ lead to 24-16.

Jones County put together a touchdown drive to start the second half capped by a nifty trick play for a two-point conversion to tied the game at 24.

Warner Robins didn’t take kindly to the tie, however, and took control for the rest of the game. They scored on five of their next six drives.

The Demon defense did its job as well, notching two interceptions and a safety in that span.

While Jones County did score another touchdown, a close game turned into a blowout and Warner Robins came away with a 54-30 win.

The win puts the Demons’ region record to 4-1 ahead of a date with Locust Grove to end the season.
