Four Macon private schools plan to leave the GHSA for an independent association
Four Macon private schools, along with Deerfield-Windsor and Strong Rock Christian Academy, announced they plan to leave the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) at the start of the 2022 school year.
The six teams from Region 1A — which include Macon’s First Presbyterian Day School, Mount de Sales Academy, Stratford Academy and Tattnall Square Academy — released a joint statement Wednesday morning announcing a unified decision to move to the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA).
Schools leaders said the decision was due to the changing landscape of the GHSA. The move came shortly after the GHSA announced its realignment plans for the 2022-23 school year.
“The schools of Region 1A are thankful for their association with the GHSA,” the joint statement said. “Region 1A private schools will continue discussions with the GISA regarding alignment and structure within their organization.”
In 2010, FPD became the first Macon private school to leave the GISA for the GHSA. In 2014, the other three schools followed.
